In January 2010 the first two bryde whales have been spotted half way between Chumphon Pinnacle and Koh Nan Yuan island.     Just last week we saw a fantastically large whale shark in Chumphon pinnacle! Made the whole trip to Thailand worth it for many of our divers. Whalesharks are regular visitors of the larger pinnacles around Koh Tao and make the island one of the few places in the world, where a scuba diver can get so close to the largest shark in the oceans. You can become a SSI Dive Control Specialist to begin with and earn your ticket to endless adventure and work opportunities around the globe. The scuba diving industry is vastly developing and growing every day, offering new job openings everywhere in the world.

How to become a Dive Control Specialist

First you have to do is go through the diving courses from Open Water Diver to Diver Stress & Rescue. Depending on what your current diving certification is, this can be done in a few days but it won’t take longer then two weeks. You also have to do a first aid course, prior to the Diver Stress & Rescue Course. If you have done a first aid course within the past 24 month, be it at your driving license or your school or at the red cross, please bring your certification. If you’re not sure if your first aid certification is valid, contact us and we will be happy to check it out for you. Otherwise it will only take one day to make an Emergency First Responder Course on Koh Tao. To start the SSI Dive Control Specialist course you also need to have 20 logged dives.

What you learn in the Dive Control Specialist Course

In the SSI Dive Control Specialist course, you will first of al learn dive leadership skills through both, classroom, and independent study. You will have to complete several water skills and stamina exercises to see you fit for the job. You will do training exercises to develop your ability to organize diving tours and to solve problems if they occur. You will learn to help other scuba divers improve their skills above and under water. Finally you will put your knowledge and your new learned skills into action through a structured internship and a series of practical training exercises. The SSI Dive Control Specialist course will change your life and will make you a more confident and responsible scuba diver. The Dive Control Specialist course is the first step towards becoming an SSI Open Water Scuba Instructor.

What you can teach after your Dive Control Specialist Course

  • You can supervise training and non training related activities by planning, organizing and directing dives
  • You can assist diving instructors during their training sessions for any SSI diving course
  • You can conduct the SSI Snorkeling program
  • You can conduct the Discover Local Diving experience
  • You can conduct the Scuba Skills Update program (tune up)
  • You can conduct the Try Scuba Diving program in the swimming pool.
