Made the whole trip to Thailand worth it for many of our divers. Whalesharks are regular visitors of the larger pinnacles around Koh Tao and make the island one of the few places in the world, where a scuba diver can get so close to the largest shark in the oceans. In general, whalesharks like divers! They just love to swim through the bubbles and get an extra portion of oxygen. ]]> Whaleshark on Koh TaoLast week we saw this enormously large whale shark at the Chumphon Pinnacle, just north oh Koh Tao! Alvaro diving where the first ever to spot byrde whales around the waters of Koh Tao. In January 2010 the first two bryde whales have been spotted half way between Chumphon Pinnacle and Koh Nan Yuan island. The captain of the Alvaro dive boat reacted fast and turned the boat around quickly. The two whales didn't seem to mind the company of snorkelers around them and stayed a while to feed their curiosity and do some human watching... ]]> Blue Whale sighting on Koh Tao by Alvaro DivingWhen we returned from our morning dive on Chumphon Pinnacle, where we went for an advanced open water diving course, we had a fantastic encounter with two whales. On our way back, towards Koh Nag Yuan, we spotted two huge whales cruising through the blue waters. The captain turned the boat around immediately and we started to slowly follow the whales.
The whales didn’t mind the company and so we tried to jump in the water to see if they would swim off; they didn’t! Victor, one of our diving guests had he’s camera ready and was soon nearby our two new friends. This is the first time bryde whales have been spotted around Koh Tao. The Bryde Whale is the largest mammal on the earth! Here is the Video, enjoy!
